Health Psychology & Illness Adjustment
Living with a health condition can affect far more than physical symptoms. Whether facing a new diagnosis, adjusting to a chronic illness, navigating treatment, or living with ongoing uncertainty, health challenges often impact relationships, work, identity, future plans, and emotional wellbeing.
Many people find themselves grieving losses that are not always visible to others. This might include changes to their health, independence, confidence, relationships, career, or the future they had imagined for themselves. These experiences are common and valid, yet they are often overlooked or minimised by those around them.
As a Health Psychologist, I support people experiencing the emotional and practical challenges that can accompany illness. My aim is to help clients make sense of what they are going through, adapt to changing circumstances, develop confidence in managing their condition, and continue building meaningful lives alongside it. I also work with partners, family members, and carers, recognising that illness affects the people around us as well as the individual experiencing it.
I take a whole-person approach, recognising that health conditions exist within the broader context of a person's life, relationships, values, and goals. While illness can bring significant challenges, it can also be an opportunity to reconnect with what matters most, develop new strengths, and find different ways of moving forward. Therapy provides a space to process these experiences, navigate uncertainty, and build a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling, whatever your circumstances.
